Science and Humanities

The department of Science and Humanities at JBREC offers the bridge courses in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Managerial Economics & Financial Analysis and Environmental science that help the engineering freshmen get attuned to the specialized engineering domains. In addition, the department coordinates a smoother transition of our novice engineering aspirants from the academic setting they experienced at 10 + 2 level to the study ambience they will encounter in their undergraduate Engineering and Technology course. As an ancillary department that supports the conduct of specialized courses, offered in its domain, as a part of the curricula of other main branches of engineering the department acquires a multi-disciplinary nature and so the faculty belongs to different disciplines namely, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Managements Studies and Environmental Sciences.

The Admissions and the Academic work of all the first years are taken care by the H&S department. The department shields the responsibility of the consolidation of attendance and the sessional marks of the first years and the maintenance of the Parent-Institution communications for the welfare of the students. The members of the faculty regularly attend seminars and workshops and training programs on various engineering subjects. Most of them are associated with scientific bodies striving for the professional and intellectual development of their fellow faculty members. The faculty has addressed itself to the need to orient the students towards the ultimate goal of relating their knowledge to the reality of life situations.

Vision:

To impart the knowledge and basic skills to the engineering students in the needed areas of their study by innovative teaching methodologies and evaluation strategies.

Mission:

  1. To provide the application of the knowledge of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for engineering programs by having practical driven education
  2. To inculcate the importance of basic and applied sciences and develop a natural flair for engineering and technology which in turn shall mould the student into a competent professional with good communication skills.

Labs

  1. ENGINEERING PHYSICS LAB:  It brings the student into contact with activity in several technical subjects like Optics, Mechanics, Circuit Analysis, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Electromagnetic Fields etc., which drives the students to the technical areas.

Engineering physics laboratory is well equipped with all sophisticated instruments for conducting lab experiments in various important areas of Physics like Optics, Mechanics, Electronics, Electricity and Magnetism.
All the experiments have been planned in cycles so that the student can perform experiments independently. Engineering Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines whose applications form the basis of technological advancement.

Optics laboratory is equipped with optical fibers, spectrometers, travelling microscopes, diode Lasers to study the traditional optical properties and modern optical applications

In Mechanics, equipments like Torsional pendulums and Melde’s experiment to determine the application oriented mechanical parameters.

Under Electromagnetic and Electronic devices like Stewart-Gee’s Galvanometer, Energy gap of diode, LCR Resonance apparatus for the measurement of electronic and electromagnetic factors and constants by application based analysis

  2. ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY LAB:  Engineering Chemistry lab is one of the best in the Dept. of H&S. Chemistry lab an allied subject to all the branches of engineering and technology.  The faculty is actively involved in research work, publishing papers in various journals. Department is also assisting the students and faculty of various branches in their project works and research activity.  The department is having three well equipped laboratories for conducting experiments as stipulated in the curriculum of all the branches at B.Tech 1st years.  Department has been conducting the seminars and workshops for the benefit of students and faculty. The department has all major equipments like Potentiometers, conducto-meters, colorimeters, Distilled water plant, Redwood viscometer and all other glassware. Our vision is to develop the department into center of learning for all I. B.Tech Courses.
  3. ELCS LABS: The department of Science and Humanities provides two language based labs - English Language Lab and Interactive Communication Skills Lab - meant for the development of the language and communication skills of its students. The language lab consists of 60 systems, which are equipped with K-Vans software, aimed at facilitating Computer Aided Multi-Media Instruction and Language Acquisition through a variety of self-instructional modes in the fields of Phonetics, Accent, Intonation and Rhythm. This lab provides the required facilities to master the computer based admission requirement exams such as TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT etc. The Interactive Communications Skills Lab caters to the needs of the students in facing interviews, group discussions, public speaking, presentation skills, debating skills, which are aimed at improving the confidence levels of the students and developing leadership qualities through communicative competence.
